The instrument has that classic dark and powerful sound that has made Conn such a renowned name in the saxophone world, especially for jazz players. This instrument was fully refurbished and serviced by the distinguished saxophone technician Stephan Howard in mid 2020, and plays perfectly. The service included precision levelling of the tone holes and regulating of the action for an incredibly crisp and fast response under the fingers. The photos make the sax look glossier than it actually is due to the white background and flash units in soft boxes - when seen for real, there is more of a patina and vintage look, but they do show a lot more clear detail as a result, especially in the shadow areas. Note that the horn has a very distinct dark honey gold colour, but Facebook and different devices, browsers etc might make look it a lot lighter. In good playing order and has a fantastic sound, but arthritis in my hand means that I need one with a slightly different key layout. I bought the sax 2nd hand in 1976, and I'm still using it on gigs & jams on a regular basis. I love the sound that I'm able to get from the horn and will miss it a great deal. There are 4 very minor dings - 1 faint one on the body tube just below the sling ring, and a couple on the plain side of the bow just above the bow guard. There are no dings or dents on the bell, bell tube, or the flare. Neck is in excellent condition and has never been bent or pulled down. All corks & felts are present. Comes with a BAM case but no other extras e.g. no mouthpiece, strap etc. Im told by those in the know that these early 5 digit MkVIs are highly sought after, but to me, its simply a fantastic horn with an amazing sound. | £5,500 |

Professionally setup and regulated by top UK technician Stephen Howard in December! A very special horn that plays beautifully with a big sound and an evenly spread tone across all the octaves, including the altissimo register. Not bright sounding by any means, but it can easily cut through any small ensemble or jazz orchestra. Almost tenor like quality to the sound when its pushed - a very powerful horn! It had a full service by Hayes Music just before lockdown (invoice available for inspection). It was inspected by Dawkes music in Maidenhead at the start of May 2021, as a possible p/ex, and described as being in 'excellent' condition. I am selling to realise a dream to buy a Selmer Reference 36. There are no dinks or dents in the horn; there are some minor chips in the lacquer from my cygnet ring - please see the photos. The sax comes with its original case - unmarked plus keys - but no mouthpiece. I am content for anyone to come and try it, following appropriate Covid guidelines, and using their own mouthpiece. | Yanagisawa | 1983 Yanagisawa Elimona S800 Soprano for sale. The Elimona range was Yanagisawa's top line of saxes, modelled after Selmer Mark VIs. I have used this professionally in the West End and several London recording studios, and (as a clarinet player) have always found it extremely easy to pick up and blow - the tone and intonation are remarkably even, and it has a sweet, rich sound with a massive dynamic range. | Yanagisawa | Yanagisawa A-500 Alto Saxophone, made in 1984 for the UK market with SN: 00119034. "A very close-to-perfect instrument" - Abi (technician) at Dawkes Music Ltd., Maidenhead. Bought in 1985 and played irregularly for ~3 months before being placed back in its as new condition case and then stored in a secure, dry place where it has remained undisturbed until being 'found' again a few weeks ago (as at May 2019). The reason for it not being played anymore is that I am a trumpet player and found the different embouchure style too difficult to master. I took the instrument to the acclaimed Dawkes Music for inspection prior to offering it for sale where it was appraised, and highly appreciated, by both their Saxophone salesman and one of their technicians, with the latter describing it as per the quote above and further qualifying that it was in "very good, near mint condition". There is a slight blemish (acid bleed) on the crook and the tiniest of flux bleeds on the top of the main body "both undoubtedly from time of manufacture". The technician minutely inspected the instrument and was pleased to see that the original pads were in very good condition and tweaked some hinges before playing it (first time in ~35 years) and describing its tone as "wonderful". This instrument needs a good home where it will be enjoyed and played regularly. It would suit not only a seasoned professional but also provide a great investment to a committed beginner. Those interested would be welcome to inspect (I'm in NE Hampshire, between Reading and Basingstoke) although I would not be able to play it for you; you'd need to bring your own reed/mouthpiece if you wished to do so. Serial number indicates a June 1971 build and here's what theSax.info said about the A-5 in 2015; "The 5 Series represented Yanagisawas top of the line horns, similar to the later 99x series. These horns were all hand made. The 5 Series of horns have a very centered tone and shows a major amount of influence from the Selmer Mark VI.
