|"Excelsior" Violin from Dresden, 1889. This antique "Excelsior" violin was built in 1889 in the workshop of Alfred Moritz in Dresden, the cultural capital of Saxony, after a successfully crafted flat Stradivari model. A label reads "Copy of Antonius Stradivarius. Made in Germany". The violin was made of selected fine tonewoods by an experienced violin maker: Broadly flamed maple was used to craft the two-piece back, the neat purfling is finest quality and the scroll demonstrates an individual style with unmistakeable character. Golden-brown varnish with beautiful patina completes the antique appearance of the antique violin. The sound is warm and smooth, with nice clarity from all the strings. It has repair as shown in photo but does not affect sound quality of Violin.
